Unstructured, wild Bouquet
The unstructured and wild bouquet is bang on trend. It looks a wide, wild, loose and natural, often seen with grouping of flowers and trailing foliage. There are varying degree's of wildness, from more condensed bouquets to great displays of wild natural beauty with spanning arms of Eucalyptus foliage. All these bouquets will have one hand handles and splayed stems to allow the blooms to stretch out wide. Trailing multiple ribbons with no bows are a popular accent to these bouquets.
Formal Posy Bouquet
The formal posy is a round shape from the top view and a dome shape from the side view. It consists of one flower type in one colour. White, cream and pale colours create the most formal look. Popular flowers used for the formal posy are roses, tulips, lisianthus, peonies, hothouse carnations, orchids or ranunculi. No greenery is used throughout the flowers but may be used as a collar underneath the blooms. It is also common to have no greenery at all and have the flowers create a ball shape instead of a dome shape from the side view. Most often these bouquets are made with natural stems with wires taped on the individual flowers to support the head to prevent it from flopping. Orchids and frangipani's would have their stems replaced with wires and be a fully wired posy bouquet.
Informal Posy Bouquet
The design of the informal posy is a relaxed version of the formal posy. It does not strictly have to be a round shape, and consists of more than one flower variety and colour. You can create varying levels of informality, ranging from very close to formal to a loose picked garden bunch. To create a more formal feel keep the posy round, compact, one colour (white, cream or pale is most effective) or monochromatic (varying shades and tones of the same hue ) with little to no greenery showing throughout the bouquet. A relaxed or casual informal posy would have a looser look, irregular shape with greenery showing through and is likely to have brighter or varying colours. Again these bouquets are mostly constructed with natural stemmed flowers.
Natural posy bouquets, formal or informal, are the most popular choice for today's bride as they are able to express a range of styles using any flower type. They can be built in all sizes and therefore are suitable for the bride, bridesmaids and flower girls. They complement the cascading bouquets and most dress designs and are less expensive than the wired bouquets.

Tear drop Bouquet (Cascading)A teardrop bouquet takes its name from its shape. It has a wide posy top with a short wide tail that comes to a point. The teardrop bouquet is usually a fully wired bouquet with the flowers on the tail being attached by a cental heavy wire. Most flowers are suitable for this design.
Note: The teardrop, shower, trailing and drop shower bouquets are other wise referred to as 'Cascading bouquets' as they spill gracefully over the brides hands flowing downward for a sophisticated and stylised look. |
Shower Bouquet (Cascading)
Traditional and graceful the shower bouquet is a longer version of the teardrop bouquet. It has a posy top which flows down to a single slender tail. Again this bouquet is fully wired with the flowers in the tail section attached to a single heavy wire.
Create a modern look with a single bold flower variety such as a Phalaenopsis orchid, magnolia foliage and dodda vine, or keep it delicate and traditional with roses, stephanotis and fine foliage.

Drop Shower or Multi-trailing Bouquet (Cascading)
If you have opulence in mind the drop shower is what you are looking for. Designed to display a large number of flowers the drop shower also has posy top (not strictly limited to), but the trail is constructed differently. As the name suggests it has multiple tails each individually wired for a fuller and less structured look. The drop shower is a fully wired bouquet which means all the natural stems have been replaced with wires.
Note: It is possible with the teardrop, shower and drop shower to use natural stems for the posy top and wire the tail/s only, depending on the flowers used. This method is less labour intensive and therefore less expensive. Check with your specialist wedding florist if this is an option for you.

Trailing Bouquet (Cascading)
Traditionally the trailing bouquet does not have a posy top, instead it is very slender from top to tip and is a fully wired construction. This style is suitable for bridesmaids to complement a bride who has chosen the shower or teardrop bouquet. Held to the side this bouquet would also be a good choice for a bride who wants to show off the elaborate details on her dress.
The modern trailing bouquet is a posy with trails of greenery, ribbon or flowers. Two popular examples are; a white flower posy top with muliple trails of stephanotis trains, and a bright coloured posy top with multiple trails of ivy vine.
